Nneka – Heartbeat

by

Nneka is a half Nigerian half German singer that grew up in Africa but moved to Germany at 18. Starting with the year 2003 she began collaborating with DJ Farhot in Hamburg. In 2005 her debut album “Victim of Truth” is released and in 2008 her second album “No longer at ease”. Her music is a complex melange of hip-hop, afro beat, dub, soul and reggae. Her beautiful and special voice comes to complete this mix. The result is a surprisingly beautiful and interesting style that made me recommend her to all of you!

Choreographed and Staged by Bill T. Jones

Based on the life of Fela Kuti

In this new musical, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Bill T. Jones with a book by Jim Lewis and arrangements by Aaron Johnson and Antibalas, audiences are welcomed into the extravagant, decadent and rebellious world of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti. Using his pioneering music (a blend of jazz, funk and African rhythm and harmonies), Fela! explores Kuti’s controversial life as artist, political activist and revolutionary musician. Featuring many of Fela Kuti’s most captivating songs and Bill T. Jones’s imaginative staging, this new show is a provocative hybrid of concert, dance and musical theater.
