Comment on the statement “A Cajun dancer will cover the dance floor while the zydeco dancer will primarily dance in a smaller area.” This depends on the dancers and the type of dance. In the two step, a couple primarily stays in one area, though they will swing around individually and together. In the waltz, the couple travels around the floor in what is called “progressive dancing.” The waltz couples walk around the floor counterclockwise (as viewed from above), with individual and pair turns. There are many individual styles of dancing, some restrained and others quite athletic and expansive. [Cajun dancer since 1987 and zydeco dancer since 1995.] Good summary article.
